A native of the Americas, Chillies (British) or chiles (Spanish) or chilis(American) refer to the fruit of the plant of the genus Capsicum. It can't be called fruit in actuality, because we generally associate fruits with sweetness. Chillies add spice and the extra hotness to food in delicacies. Chilli plants are also of ornamental value in gardens. There are many varieties of chillies, and it is fun to grow them at home. This blog describes exclusively how to grow chillies.
Location
Chilli plants love hot weather. Choose a location such that there is enough sunshine. People in the tropics can grow chillis easily. People in colder climatic regions can grow chillies indoors in pots and maintain warm conditions for the plant. Chillies can also survive under humid conditions (unlike their cousins, tomatoes). Chillies require a temperature of 20˚C to germinate and around 30˚C for the ripening of fruit. The coldest temperature should not fall below 15˚C. They well in almost any soil of reasonable fertile conditions.
Choose a location such that there are ample sunshine and the soil is fertile. If you are growing chillies indoors, in pots, ensure that you choose a location where there is enough sunshine, like a balcony or a window sill. Treat the soil with compost to ensure that it is rich in potassium. Also ensure that the pH of the soil is between 6.5 and 7 for the best results.
Planting
You can grow chilli plant from seeds or by buying a plant from the nursery. Any guide on how to grow chillies will tell you that it is advisable to plant the chillies during early spring. Before planting the seeds, soak them in lukewarm water for 24 hours and then allow them to dry. Ensure that you space out the seeds if grown in gardens. If grown in pots ensure that you plant one seed per pot. Place the seed half an inch below the soil surface and pack it.
Watering
Watering the seeds on a daily basis is a must. But ensure there is no water logging to prevent any fungal infections. Water enough to ensure that the soil is moist at all times. It takes anywhere between few days to few weeks for the seeds to germinate. Once the shoot starts sprouting, slowly reduce the amount of watering.
Harvesting
It takes about a month for the chillies to bear fruit. During this period, ensure that the plot is regularly weeded. Keep the soil rich of potassium by adding compost. The time to harvest chillies can be identified by their size and colour. They usually start changing colours during the time of harvest. If you are looking to make chilli powder or chilli flakes, allow the chillies to dry and shrivel up on the plant before harvesting them.
Increasing the production of chillies using the biofield energy transmissions
The energy transmission of Mahendra Trivedi proved to be effective in increasing the productivity and the yield of the crops and the plants. The Trivedi Effect® increased the productivity of chilli plants.
